Somewhat ugly, and bulky too... but with the collapsible lens is very well protected from impact damage when wholly surrounded, say, from getting crushed against a door frame when moving around getting shots at a party.

Indeed, the metal tube is pretty tough and extremely well mounted.... where a lenshood placed on the lens in conventional manner would increase the door frame hazard, not reduce it.
