Kids moving fast indoors sure seems like a job for something fast.

That said, Canon's 50/1.4 would not be my first choice. The AF mechanism is really fragile and it's only pretty good wide open. Having the front element move during focusing means any bump it takes to the front it absorbs directly with the AF mechanism.

The Canon 85/1.8 and Sigma 50/1.4 are in about the same price range, are sharper wide open, and are better built.

The 85 and Sigma 50 are all I use in that range now, my poor old Canon 50 sits on the shelf waiting for a repair that might not come—after six AF kills in 8 years I'm tempted not to bother.
