Re: Hoods for legacy lenses used with NEX?

Ever notice how the space around the front of a lens is colored black, and often covered with rings to deter reflections? Similarly, the inside of a lens hood is colored black, and often has rings or even flocking to cut reflections. The inside surfaces of lenses are similarly treated. On many good lenses, the edges of the glass elements are painted black. The interior of a camera between the lens and sensor is black and often has ridges. All those surfaces are exposed to non-image-forming light rays. The designers want to minimize light from bouncing off those surfaces and degrading the image on the sensor or film.

But I guess all the optical engineers who design that stuff are ignorant of "basic science."
