I love the Tamron 28-75 2.8.  Mine is on my camera 80% of the time, it's my everyday walkabout lens.  Sharp, contrasty, and well constructed.  Only problem I had was that the rubber grips on the zoom and focus rings dried out and faded after a few years, but Tamron sent me a new set of grips at no charge when I emailed them about it.  Good lens, good customer service.  Nikon could learn from them.
