I think Joe was writing with tongue in cheek about the red shift. Getting the different sensitivities of the sensor under low light conditions with long exposure like this is a challenge.

The shot of Orion was taken with the K5+FA*31 ltd attached to my scope which was on my equatorial mount. The other two were taken with my K5 attached to a 0.8x field flattener/focal reducer which was on my Televue 85 scope. This resulted in a 480 mm f/5.6 lens attached to my iEQ30 mount that was tracking the stars.
