800mm f/5.6...lighter than 600mm f/4....nice!

Yeah I'm with you Jim.  I rarely exceed ISO 400 yet shoot all sorts of stuff with my manual focus 800mm.  Just takes practice and good technique.  The viewfinder on my D300 is the biggest problem.  I usually just trust to the focus indicator vs my eyes to ensure focus.
