Is the 12-35 suitable for cat-scapes?

Is it purrfect for feline fotos? Could it be a whisker sharper? Does the MTF tail off?

I used to smear Vaseline on the periphery of my lenses because I like blurry effects at the edges of my landscapes.

Is it right that if I buy a 12-35 I can get blurry edged pictures without wasting all that Vaseline?

I'm a bit disappointed at the moment because I read here that the viewfinder of the GH3 was all smeared at the edges. My one isn't at all smeared which makes it useless for viewing my landscapes. Should I send it back?
