Re: Anyone tried the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 VC Di Nikon

I sold my 24-70 because of the weight and briefly considered the Tamron 24-70 VC after trying one side-by-side....but of course it's also big, so I bought a 24-85vr.

Here are my observations:

1) Nikon better at the corners

2) Tamron sharper in the center at 70mm

3) Could not see much difference in bokeh and onion effect on OOF lights does not effect photos in a negative way as far as I'm concerned.

4) Contrast was too close to matter.

5) VC works. People without VC or VR on a lens like this are kidding themselves because it's worth having. And the Tamron is (I think) lighter even with the VC.

I doubt people could tell shots apart from these lenses, though at 70mm I felt the Tamron was better. I think the Tamron, given the VC and other strengths, is the equal of the Nikon 24-70, but keep in mind that Nikon will certainly add VR to their lens eventually.
