In the short term, either choice will do you fine.

Where are you going longer term? The D600 is a great entry into FX. So if that is the direction you want to head, maybe this is a good time to make that move even if you have to compromise a bit on the lens. Also, if I were buying for the long haul, I would be reluctant to get the D7000, since it is soon to be replaced.

On the other hand, in terms of bang for the buck, the D7000 with the 17-55 is a great setup. I shot that for a couple of years straight and was very happy with the results.

I feel like long term, the value of the dx platform (and the 17-55mm itself) will go down. I've been of the mindset of invest in lenses and cycle through bodies. Of course, that hasn't exactly worked out because I never upgraded my body.

Since you say you are leaning toward full frame: I recently upgraded from the d7000 to the d800. The difference in IQ is more than I expected, almost shocking. I am keeping the D7000 for now as a backup. But I am not regretting the move to full frame. But...everything, especially good glass, is more expensive.

If I were trying to stay with DX I would be hoping for a D300 replacement soon. If it comes, I think it could be a real sweat package.
