Your shooting with good combination D600 and 24~70 2.8, if you don't know what your doing wrong, set you cam to (P) Program and go shoot a bunch of pic and surprise yourself., then read up on (A), (S) and (M) settings.

Exactly!

When you venture out of program mode I would suggest you start by using "Aperture Priority" mode first. The only thing that you would change is the aperture setting to control depth of field.

To choose an aperture between the minimum and maximum values for the lens, rotate the sub command dial while the exposure meters are on.

Menu change: Select Auto ISO sensitivity control for ISO sensitivity settings in the shooting menu. Set the camera to auto ISO and use a minimum shutter speed of 2x the focal length of the lens.
If Auto is selected, the camera will choose the minimum shutter speed based on the focal length of the lens (auto shutter-speed selection can be fine tuned by highlighting Auto and pressing 2; for example. Exit when settings are complete.

Make sure that your exposure compensation setting is set to "0". Take some pictures without any other camera setting changes. Try it and you will see how great this camera really is.
