Re: 7D and Lens selection

I am just trying to get into wildlife.  I am fortunate to have the Canon 70-300L.  I just bought the 100-400 from LenseRentals....it arrived today!  The 70-300 has a lot of benefits...compact size, very sharp, fast, etc......but it is barely long enough for birds and wildlife.  I am hoping the 100-400 will be a bit better.....may try the Kenko 1.4x.  My not-very-scientific-hand-held comparison in the front yard this afternoon seems to confirm that the 100-400 at 400 gives a better image than the 70-300 cropped to match.

You have many good suggestions here. I'd also toss in for additional consideration once you are set at the long end and have a good walk around (I love my 15-85), you might also want to consider the EF-s 10-22 at the wide end.

The 7D is a great camera.  Enjoy!
