I agree. The lack of a high-quality, fast wide angle prime is a rather glaring hole in Sigma's lineup.

The announcement stated there was a new 30mm f/1.4 that will come in a Sigma mount.

But that's not a wide angle lens.

The existing 20mm f/1.8 already works really well (as LarryJ has shown).

It's not that great. I used to own one. Really, really soft until f/4 or so.

Although verging on not wide, the new 35mm f/1.4 is fantastic by all accounts.

Not looking for a wide angle for full-frame camera (I already have Zeiss 21, 28 and 35mm lenses for my Canon 5Dii), but instead looking for a 15-18mm fast prime for my SD15 1.7x crop camera.

And frankly, another wide angle option is simply to buy a DP-1M which is as much as a really good wide angle lens alone.

I already have the DP1 Merrill. It is limited in some respects compared to my SD15.

It would be nice to have something at the really, really low end that was superb, but the 8-16 is already at least a good option there.

The inability to use filters on the 8-16mm renders it mostly useless for me. I have the 10-20mm f/4-5.6, but I'd much rather have a faster aperture prime with better optical qualities.
