This is a cool shot!

I have the A900 and and found that the AF-C, while not great, is good enough for shooting evolving action. It performs best with a SSM lens, high iso (800-1600) and stopping down a bit to ensure that the DOF is comfortable to compensate for weaknesses in the tracking.

I also found that focus priority release is a two-sided coin: it will improve your in-focus rate but not necessarily your keeper rate as the camera can refuse to release the shutter if the AF lags behind the action. As I think slightly OOF is better than a well-focused ugly shot, I keep it on release priority.
