David, the DP2Merrill screen is much easier to see in bright light than the earlier DP series screens. Much easier.

I too usually have on reading glasses to see the screen. It's really NOT hard to see the screen when the camera is fastened to a monopod. I hold the mono with the left hand, manipulate the camera with right hand (being right handed). Very easy. But I do rely on auto focus 99% of the time. I find it's true and accurate and I want to see the focus point [ ] on the screen to be sure it is where I want it.

I have a viewfinder for the DP1 but found I seldom used it... mainly because I couldn't be sure of exactly what the center [ ] was focused on.

You might inquire whether Sigma UK has any kind of loaner program or if there is someone with the DP2Merrill in your vicinity.
