D800 FINAL AF Settings...;-)
After two days of beating up my D800 outside, indoors, on the roof and anywhere else I could test it, I finally set the camera in a way that is working for me.
In addition to using AF-ON in conjunction with AF-C I have ALSO turned off all tracking at A3 (A3 = OFF). So far as I understand it, this is taking most/all of the D800's focus tracking/bias away. Turning A3 off also improved AF-S mode.
Thus far results with all lenses has been very good and that includes consumer stuff, like this shot taken with my new (and quite nice!) Tamron 70-300 VC.
I'm getting fairly reliable results in all lighting conditions. Thanks to those who were chill and gave some good tips!
