It really is odd. They are a few generations different. Pentax has also been a big DNG fan which makes Adobe very happy. I get the impression that Pentax has worked out the bugs with the DNG file. The profile within it must carry some important data which ACR puts to use. Even on old versions of ACR.

With the K2000, one had to choose between shadows or highlight preservation as well as other trade offs. With the K 01 DNG, I get everything. I have accidentally underexposed by many stops and still got a good photo. I also have shot into the sun and surprised I did not get much if anything blown out. Deep shadows still had detail. It is like shooting a one exposure HDR.
