Re: Help me understand my D800E's metering

Is your monitor properly calibrated? Pretty much a must!

Some older monitors just won't calibrate. They simply do not have the color gamut necessary. You want a monitor with at least 90% of aRGB, preferably 97% or higher.

The ability of calibrating a monitor is not linked to the gamut. A display with wider gamut allows you to see colors which would get clipped otherwise. But a properly calibrated monitor will be accurate within its gamut range regardless of how wide it is.

Most people still don't have a monitor with wide gamut. If you want to evaluate an image closer to what most people will see on their display you're better off with a "regular" gamut monitor.
