Nopeā€¦ the sensors are basically the same size and quality. The reason the P7700 out resolves the G15 and looks so much sharper is because the P7700 lens is much better (higher quality) lens than the G15. No amount of sharpening, post processing, going to a higher ISO range is going to make the G15 images look as sharp as the P7700 images. Also, having the 200mm vs only a 140mm reach is a real advantage!

tron,

Since you accuse others of being illiterate, I'll remind you that DxO does not rate quantum efficiency of sensors. In fact, I'd love to see you actually post a link to any site that does give the quantum efficiency of sensors....I've personally never seen one.

Secondly, looking at actual test shots on this website comparing the G15 and P7700 show almost identical levels of detail coming from both cameras. Looking in areas of extremely fine detail don't reveal an edge for either camera. Putting a real camera up against both shows what better sensors and optics can do (RX100, G1 X, or about any of the large sensor DSLR's or ILC's). Mind you, this comparison was done using RAW files, which is the only objective method of comparing images since, in theory, the exact same processing is applied to both.

Your view of cameras is limited in some areas and simply not supported by objective fact in others. All things aren't equal. You have no idea what the actual quantum efficiency of any of these sensors really is. The DxO score is, always has been, and is generally understood by experienced photographers to be misleading at best and useless at worst.
