Of course you'd have to find a 12mm, 17mm, 24mm, and 35mm to cover the same focal length range. The 24mm and 35mm aren't a big concern, but I bet the 12mm or 17mm will be pretty big, heavy, and expensive, and still might not be able to match the performance of the modern lens, even at f/8.
