Lens for "big game" photography

Let me add this - if the budget is not an issue, nor is weight, and the OP simply wants the very best solution for shooting African wildlife while on Safari with IQ and performance being important above all else, then I'd most certainly agree that a DSLR or SLT body, with a very good prime lens, would be the best choice...we agree on that. Indeed I'd be bringing my DSLR and APO lens with me if I were going on that trip. But I'd still bring the NEX and the 55-210 and extender along too as a second body.

If cost is really no object, the best thing to do is hire a professional photographer with all the best gear to take all your pictures for you so you can enjoy the trip with your friends/family, taking in all the sights and not spending time fiddling with a camera.
