I made a Variable ND filter by buying a Linear Polarizing Filter to use on top of my Circular Polarizing Filter.

Thanks. Can you explain how you use them with one another? I think I read that linear polarizers interfere with the camera's AF or other functions?

Well, a CP is a LP with a quarterwave filter under it. You simply put the LP filter on top of the CP filter, so you have from front to back, LP, LP, 1/4 wave, lens.

When the two LPs are turned perpendicular to each other they block all light, when they are aligned they block a couple stops, varying the angle controls the amount of light blocked.
