In program priority the camera will keep generally keep the lens wide open. Aperture Priority will always keep the lens wide open if it is set that way.

However, with Aperture priority and Auto ISO the camera can elect to stop raising the ISO and start slowing down the shutter speed. In my opinion I would rather use Program Priority with the min shutter speed option because it will generally use a faster shutter speed than the aperture priority mode even when the camera is set to shoot wide open.

Given what you say, why isn't the optimal solution A priority set to wide open, a minimum shutter speed, and Auto ISO? That would leave the camera no choice but to raise the ISO rather than slow the shutter. No?

I don’t have the camera anymore. However, basing it off the “A” aperture modes of other Panasonic cameras it will never use a fast enough shutter speed with aperture priority mode and Auto ISO. It basically assumes that you are shooting portrait pictures and the shutter speeds will be very short.

In A mode you only have the ability to slow the shutter speed down in low light. There is no way to force the camera to use a faster shutter speed and a higher ISO in that mode with Auto ISO turned on. At least in “P” mode I can set a minimum shutter speed and then let the camera choose the Aperture and ISO. That will force the camera to use a higher ISO to accomodate the shutter speed lower limit.

Correct me if I am wrong. However, I believe the minimum shutter speed setting only applies to Program priority mode and it is not an available option on Manual, Shutter Priority, or Aperture Priority modes. I could be wrong on that though. I don’t have the camera anymore so I can’t double check that.
