f1.4 lenses autofocus in several stops lower light that f5 lenses. This would not be possible if light reaching the autofocus sensor was restricted by an internal aperture no wider than f5.

Auto focus has moved on from a single autofocus point 20 and more years ago.

Many Nikon bodies illuminate 15 or more autofocus points from a single micro lens.

It is probable focus tracking using several autofocus points and Auto area AF now works by switching on and off individual detection cells on autofocus detection lines long enough to cover up to five viewfinder autofocus points. I accept Nikon do not comment on this.

If my presumption is correct and if there is an internal aperture with modern Nikon autofocus the aperture would need to be large enough to cover many viewfinder AF points. This implies wider than you're suggested f5.
