There are several variants of the 85mm/F1.4. From memory, there are at least three: the orginal 85mm Minolta which did not have the Gold line, the 85mm (d) variant, the 85mm (d) variant with the gold line.

There were all optically the same. There is a rare (extremely rare) of a limited edition 85mm which IIRC had different coatings and selected lens components.

I have the orginal lens and it is superb

I own an 85 f/1.4 G D Limited in it's original package.  Coatings have little or nothing to do with differences in this very special lens.  It is built with much heavier glass and is physically longer.

Historically it was decided that it was too expensive to produce so in 2001 only 700 were made and offered to Japanese buyers along with a Limited version of the Minolta 35mm "7" with packaging matching that of the lens. It was never called "Limited Edition" by Minolta but simply "Limited" or abbreviated as "Ltd."

I also own a 85 f/1.4 G D.
