I did a quick pass in a photo editor with the Nikon RAW file.  Yes you can pull back in a lot of shadow detail.  But it doesn't seem like any more than what I'm used to pulling back with a well-exposed Merrill file, such as this one.  Note that it can have the shadow detail brought up a lot more, you can even do so from the linked JPG quite easily - I just wanted to leave some deep shadows in for effect but there's almost nothing truly black:


I guess it is amazing, I'm just used to being amazed by now with the images I edit every day...
