Do I need a model release form?

I'd describe myself as a 'good' amateur photographer.  As such, my employer (nothing to do with photography!) has asked if I can help save a bit of money by photographing an event that we're involved with (we're not the actual hosts but are very involved in the event).

I've been specifically asked to photograph an awards ceremony and may also be asked to do other tasks such as photograph speakers, general crowd shots etc...

My question is whether or not model release forms are required.  I'd imagine that we'd use the photos I take for internal communications and perhaps trade journals.

I don't think I'd require them for the general crowd/athmosphere shots, but was more curious about photographing award winners and/or speakers.

Any thoughts?
