The 12mm Oly does soften in the corners when software correction is applied, which is not unusual.

Again, what's the problem with that if resolution is fine (as it is) after software correction? It's the end result that counts, isn't it?

If the resolution measurements don't match the visual impression than there is a problem. Which we all know is quite possible, eg, what precise area in the frame is labelled 'corners' or sagittal vs. tangential resolution.

In general you are right but when the visual impression differs one has to dig deeper.

Yes, but what I understood the poster as saying is that the corners of the Oly 12 are softer after correction than they are before, not that there is a difference of the kind you outline. That the corners are softer after correction than before it is applied is self-evident but quite irrelevant. The point is how well the corners do in absolute terms and in comparison with other lenses once the correction is applied.

Agreed, one can read that phrase in different ways, I read it as "the 12 mm does soften in corner when software correction is applied [whereas the 7-14 mm does much less so]".
