Re: F/2.8 + F/4 Examples - Tamron SP AF 28-105mm F/2.8 Aspherical LD

Thanks for taking the time to put the samples up.  My take on it is that the 28-105 lens does not seem worth the bother.  It was very soft at f2.8, purple fringing even at f4 on the Tamron lens cap.

Not a "yuck" lens, but I think the tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and the Nikon 24-120 f/4 both produce better results.

Looking through the fredmiranda user reviews:

Seems to bear out my take on the lens.  Soft wide open, prone to flare, not the best at high contrast situations.  With an overall user rating of a fairly low 7.5, which puts it near the bottom of rated lenses there.  The 28-75 for comparison sake was rated 8.8, the newer 24-120 f/4 was not on the list but the older f/3.5-5.6 (which gets very little love on the forum) was 7.8.

My point is only that given your (and other's) examples from the Tamron 28-105 f/2.8, there seem to be better choices available including those two the OP is testing.
