The x100, and Xp1 are becoming my preferred event shooters, given certain parameters that you need to check.

Not only do you need to know the ceiling height, you need the ceiling color(many are black or dark colors). If this is so, forget the bounce flash.

I really like natural light photography in sort of a PJ style. The x100, and the XP1 (with the 35mm f1.4) are great for this. ISO 3200 and 6400 shots, if carefully exposed, look great. The light level in the room can often be increased slightly to assist with this, without spoiling the atmosphere. Think B+W if there are to many color temp light sources.

If you use a big flash, think about acquiring one of Gary Fongs lightspheres which really work well, even if you can't bounce.
