What's a value cast?

I can see no problems in having two dissimilar monitors - provided they're both calibrated and profiled with a hardware device.

I've always had two dissimilar monitors: my newest monitor alongside the second-newest (whatever they are at the time).  Currently I have two monitors different in size, pixel density (slightly) and colour gamut.  After calibration and profiling they look virtually identical for most images (which is what you would expect).

In fact, I find it's very useful having two monitors with different gamuts (one is wide-gamut, one "normal" gamut approximating to sRGB).  It instantly shows up any colour management problems!
