Re: What is Street Photography? define please

Street photography owes it's roots to the war correspondences and the photojournalist of the 30's 40's and 50's. The "fathers" come to mind W. Eugene Smith and Henri Cartier-Bresson.  Both Smith and Cartier-Bresson honed their skills in "capturing the moment" during support the war through reporting the war effort.  That continued during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.

If you want to see some of the best "street photography" ever made look at issues of Life magazine from the 40's through the 60's.  After the war both of these two geniuses plus others turned the eye and skills honed during the war and post war period toward the "street."

Street photography is about capturing the "magic or decisive (if you want) moment" in random unposed scenes of ordinary people in ordinary places doing ordinary things whose juxtaposition with one another and light conveys a deep insight into ourselves and our culture.
