I have a Sony SLT (a57) and use the Sony 18-250mm lens as my only lens and take snaps of my grandson under available light. You can see how this combo works here (ignore the videos):

The difference between an f 1.4, f 1.8, and f 3.5 lens in a digital environment, IMHO, is irrelevant.

Without wanting to be too harsh here, a lot of your indoor shots are:

  • at web resolution - which will hide a lot of noise issues
  • Blurry due to subject motion
  • Lacking background separation
