As a control, I also printed A3 versions of Quentin Bargate's test shot comparing the NEX 7 and the DP2M.

Also the same.

So there you go, there is no visible difference in print quality that I can detect between the DP2M, the D800, the RX100 compact and the NEX 7/Zeiss 24mm printed at A3 on Permajet Matt Plus 240 on my Epson R2400 printer.

My conclusion: there is no point to me buying an expensive state of the art high resolution camera for the image quality when I print no larger than 17 x 11.5 inches on matt paper as they all look pretty much the same (which supports what I found when I was pondering buying a NEX 7: A3 prints from it looked identical to those from the NEX 3).

My current cameras (NEX 5n, Lumix G3, Pentax K5 even the SD14) all max out my printer at A3 size.

Job done really

Right for full size files, BUT what if you wish to crop?

Background: David convinced me through a similar print experiment that the DP1 and DP2 (non Merrills) print just as well at 11x19 inches as the Canon 5DII. I have the 'proof' hanging at my house and side-by-side prints in a portfolio.

But, my big what if is, when you want/need to crop, there is indeed a difference in play. I haven't done any 11x19inch prints yet, cropped or uncropped of DP2MERRILL vs Canon 5DII. Based on 1st paragraph, one wouldn't see a difference in a full file. BUT I can crop the DP2Merrill readily, wherein I cannot similarly crop the DP2 original.

The shots I just put up on flickr of Artists' Palette (the latest rock shots, SDIM1230 and SDIM1232 I might reprocess as TIFFs and crop to the colorful area.

Best regards, Sandy (archival) (current, mentioned DP2Merrill photos)
