Sony A99 always underexposes 0.65 stops

Compared Nikon D700 and Sony A99 today side by side.

With the same aperture, iso, shutter, the Sony exposes 0.65 stop darker images.

Iso 200, 1/200 s f/8

Colors are very similar. Raw headroom is very similar, (taken into account the darker Sony image.)

My earlier fears that the A99 was much worse in raw headroom were unfounded.

By default the Sony is much darker in the shadows. Setting blacks to "0" evens it out.

But 0,65 stop darker images... Why?

The consequences it might have, is the need for higher Iso.

A practical thing I've noticed with A99 is that with image auto preview, there is a lag between shots... and without it, I don't get the instant feedback I get with D700. I have to press the pay button to see how the image turned out in studio.

Also, the AF points are too centered... and in backlight AF struggles more than D700, but I haven't tried without face detection yet and only with 85 /1.4, which has a slow screw motor.

I thought it was the ultimate camera... but it seems like there still is room for improvement.
