As the subject says i'm interested to know whta 50mm "nifty fifty" you are using on your A99.

I'm not far away from buying my own A99 and am researching lens that can do the body justice. The Sony 50mm 2.8 Macro gets good revies (http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/Sony-AF-50-F2.8-Macro_lens306.html) as do the discontinued Minoltas ( http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/Minolta-AF-50-F2.8-Macro-RS_lens94.html + http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/Minolta-AF-50-F2.8-Macro_lens93.html

So, whaddya think I should get (stills AND video by the way )?

I'm using the Sigma 50/1.4 for my A580 and A900, and I love it. I've used the Minolta 50/1.7 and Minolta/Sony 50/1.4 and the Sigma is an all around better lens to me(except for size, weight, and cost, obviously). If you shoot wide open a lot the Sigma is noticeably better than the Minolta/Sony 1.4 in the 1.4-2.8 range. The sigma is usable at 1.4 and sharp at only 1.6. The Sony gets sharp at about F2. Past F2.8-4 or so the optical differences aren't really noticeable.

It has quiet focusing HSM and every other 50mm lens in the alpha system has a loud screw drive or SAM(50/1.8 but that's APS-C only anyway). So the Sigma would easily be the best choice for video work if you intend to use auto focus.

The Minolta/Sony 50mm 2.8 lenses are macro lens. Do you need a macro lens? If not, for general use, you will find them slow to focus, and for manual focus video use the focus throw will be very long which is great for macro, but bad for quickly adjusting your focus.

The Sony 50/1.4 is one of the few lenses supported by the A99's new hybrid AF system, so if the loud AF issues aren't a problem for your work, that would be a reason to choose the Sony.

Some people say the Sigma 50/1.4 is bad in the corners on FF, but so are the Minolta/Sony 50/1.4 lenses, so its moot really. One of the macro lenses will be sharper in the corners if thats what you need.

There is also a Carl Zeiss 50/1.4 rumored to be released very soon in Sony mount, probably with silent SSM focusing, and it will almost certainly be supported by the A99's hybrid focus as well. Cost will be atleast as much as the Sigma 50/1.4, possibly double($800-1000 or so wouldn't shock me).
