Indeed, I am aware I would loose money and did not know that Canon in Europe services Canadian gear. That'll change things.

Although I am still interested in switching brands, I could sell my Tokina 16-28 2.8 (a wonderfully sharp lens) and invest in a TSE (I've always been interested in these lenses).

Thanks for the tips

personally .. especially for a europe trip .. i'd so go with the TSE for landscape and architecture on your current 5D2.. but that'd be me

properly using a TS-E will ultimate result in more IQ than simply a retro-focus lens on a higher MP body from both a perspective control, ca and lack of distortion.  for landscapes, tilting the plane of focus can result in far more "actual MP's" as more of the content is in the actual plane of focus down to 2lp's.

and canon's TS-E 24 and 17 are best in class.
