I've got the Tamron 24-70 on order. I'll report my results when it arrives.

Sure let us know what you experience then. Here are my reasons to pickup Canon flagship 24-70L II

1) It's Canon. I don't compromise the most important lenses such as this one and 70-200L II

2) It's sharp at F2.8 even at edges

3) The least 24mm distortion in all zoom in this range

4) Better bokeh and background blur

5) The key advantage is extreme fast AF that is the main issue in Tamron copy as shown in this video

6) The only problem is lacking of 'IS'. However I will use tripod as much as possible in low light so this is not a big issue as I thought initially. Maybe two years' later after Canon released 'IS' version of 24-70L F2.8 (seems a solid rumor), I can sell this one and get the 'IS' version. For sport shooters lacking of 'IS' is not important.

7) It's relative light, only slightly heavier than 24-105L. Excellent build quality. Tamron copy is noticeably  heavier.

8) I got a sweet deal with 10% off Amazon deal on top of Canon best instant rebate.

Tamron's main advantage is F2.8 with VC. If you can go w/o F2.8, then 24-70L/4.0 IS (the price will drop soon) or 24-105L/4.0 IS is good enough.

24-105L is still has its value, 35mm extra at tele side. The main issues are more distortion at 24mm and relative soft edges/corners.

Anyway each of these new 24-70 or original 24-105L has its pro and con.
