Re: Does Nikon D5200 have (finally) built-in AF motor/engine?

You're expecting the D5200 to assume the "advanced-enthusiast" mantle of the D7000, and it never will. No Nikon lens introduced in the last 10 years has had screwdriver-focus. The vast majority of Nikon sales are of the D3xxx-D5xxx series, and these have been overwhelmingly to new DSLR buyers who started out with the AF-S lenses and won't look twice at earlier ones. Most don't buy more than the lens that came on the camera.

The small-body Nikons don't have the room for the screwdriver motor, but more importantly they don't have the corporate mission to do so. Look for screwdriver AF to retreat even further up the Nikon ladder.
