This is not about satisfying people with the need having the latest, but about giving photographers the best tool possible to get the job done.

No, but lenses tend to hold their value very well until they have a replacement put out. Now that non-sealed version's resale value takes a bit of a hit because there's a newer model out.

And no, lenses should not be upgraded on a whim because there could be a new feature added or you get what Apple has created in replacing their phone every 9 months now. I would be urinated that a brand new lens is just replaced by one with sealing. This is just poor management on Sigma's part. I'm not into buying a lens, then selling it right away at a bit of a loss in order to buy the newly updated lens because Sigma has put HSM into it or OS.

I was a bit fast on the trigger with my reply, I have to admit that. My main point is related to this specific lens, and it is a bit special, since its the only F2.8 lens in this range. Weather sealing is something I, and I am sure a lot of other photographers have been waiting fore. This is a lens made for outdoor usage so this upgrade is were welcome.

That it first got weather sealing now is most likely as you say, a matter of bad management from Sigmas side.
