I'm a computer engineering professor with a history of public domain software development... and I mostly agree that hacking a NEX would be a very weak answer to the problem.  CHDK has done about as well as one can do along those lines, and every software revision still breaks things.

The problem is that Sony has not exposed the Linux environment, but simply used the security features to make it harder to get at anything. I wish Sony would encourage 3rd-party secure aps; it really wouldn't be hard to support them....
