Top LCD auto off on d600

Just getting to know my new camera as I've had it for only a few weeks. It seems that I remember the top LCD screen turning off automatically when idle. Now it stays on all the time as long as the on/off switch is not turned off. I have checked the setting in c-2 and it is set for 6 seconds. Is this normal or am I missing something?-- hide signature --
The backlight is what turns off. The LCD display itself stays on the entire time the camera is on. It draws so little power you don't need to worry about it. It's the backlight on LCD displays that drains your battery.
