Re: Questions

Interesting exchange here between Bright colous and mibu2011. Since I wracked my brain about this too for a while, here is my version.

Originally had 60D and normally took it out for longer outings when weight was a concern with just the EF-S 15-85mm. The 15-85 has a huge front element which is not protected by the lens shade so I used a (good coated) filter on it. Net weight for 60D + battery + 15-85 + filter + hood + strap = 1600 g. (Of course I had 3kg more lenses, flashes etc.which I only took when necessary.)

Tried to save 350 g by substituting 18-55 kit lens. Was disappointed by kit lens and decided the weight reduction was not worth it.

Now I have a NEX-6 with 16-50mm PZ and it weighs in with all I need for basic outing at 490 g. Kit lens is better than the EF-S18-55 but not as good as the 15-85. Doesn't matter to me. Focussing not as fast but safer due to focus peaking - and I prefer the EVF. For the weight saving of more than 1000 g (a large water bottle) without a major disadvantage I am happy to go with the NEX.

Other peole will have other priorities. No problem with that.
