Which lens to get for outdoor sports?

Consider f/2.8 telephoto lenses

The better choice is to keep the 70-200, or sell it for one of the IS versions, and add an f/2.8 supertelephoto lens.  If you're doing any nighttime events, that 100-400 lens isn't going far.  It's not an f/4.5 lens at 400 mm.  If you want something like that, wait for the new 200-400 f/4 lens, but even f/4 can be too little aperture for many sports fields.  You really should be considering an f/2.8 telephoto lens, and I recommend the 300 mm focal length more than the 400 mm focal length for the 7D camera, assuming that you are doing this professionally from the sidelines.
