I use Sigma and 7D mainly for birding so I almost always use the matching Sigma 1.4xTC. I hardly notice any difference in image quality and AF speed. With 2xTC I have to be careful with focusing (slower) and stop down to F8. Other than heavy weight (which I can still manage handheld for a whole day thanks to its large handle) and lack of focus limit I really have no complain. The new version added much needed limiter and weather sealing. Sigma is on a roll lately with several excellent lenses (50-150/2.8 OS, 70-200/2.8 OS, 35/1.4, etc.).
