Good for athletics and so on though

Speaking of athletics:

Me shooting with 200/1.8 handheld

Me shooting with older version of 400/2.8 IS handheld

Me testing a second-hand 600/4 non-IS handheld

That was awhile ago. Would have been much easier now with my 1D Mark IV, as the heavier camera balances a long lens much better. There are, however, 3 issues with those big guns:

1) limited use (less versatility) due to fixed focal length

2) can't afford all of this stuff as much as I'd love to

3) too heavy to carry around while out there taking photos. Just imagine having to carry my basic kit - big heavy tripod, camera, 2 flashes, fisheye, extreme wideangle, midrange zoom, macro, 85/1.2, extension tubes, TC, long tele zoom - over places like these:

I've used a 300 or a 120-300 all day handheld but have a more civilised 400 5.6.
