Well I don't see the point in buying a lens that's rated at a certain speed like F2.8 if it can't do it without cutting major corners such as edge softness. I'd rather just get an F4 lens if that's the case.

He might shoot more than landscapes and lowlight landscapes/shoot interiors might require shooting at F2.8.
