At the estuary, 500mm and 800mm

Fine day so out to the estuary to try out the 800mm lens. Started off with the 500mm hand held for a few shots of a Tern that keep coming by. Nothing great, but its all practise and fun

NEX-7, Canon FD 500mm F/4.5L

Tern coming though

Love watching these on a dive. Hopefully I'll catch the dive some day.

Then on with the Canon FD 800mm F/5.6L. Yep, a real handful but it can bring things in pretty close for sure

A white faced Heron

Rotated the camera on the lens for this one, full frame from the 800mm

As close as the 800mm  can get, so it ended up a bit tight in the frame. I wanted to see exactly how close the lens could focus and this is it.

Cropped, just loved the look of this pose, maybe too much ear wax.

Another crop closing in on the head

So had to try for a BIF with the 800mm, man it's though work from a tripod and when so far out.

So a spur winged plover / Lapwing coming into land. I honestly can't see the 800mm being used too often for Bif's. That's where the 500 comes into its own.

All the best folks
