This is the reason why I have a crop body (650D) in addition to 6D (just sold my 5DII for that). I also have the Sigma 18-250 lens, for vacation purposes. When on vacation, I really want to travel light (especially because I do a lot of bicyling), and  650D with the Sigma is a perfect combo for that purpose. Of course pixel peeping will show reduced IQ, but it is certainly good enough.

I also have the Canon 24-105mm lens, and have found that it works really well with Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 1.4x converter (also with Canon 70-200 f/4). The converter is quite cheap (and very light), and  IQ does not suffer that much. A little more reach at least...
