Nikon Flash Lens Hood Shadow Problem

Dear All,

I took photos outdoor with flash thinking I need to fill the shadow.

I was using my Nikon D80 with HB-35 Lens Hood. I was also using the flash that came with the camera & sometimes I will connect my SB 600.

I noticed that most of my photos will have the shadow of my lens cap, so I ended up taking them off. It does not matter which flash I used, I get the same annoying shadow.

Taken with my Nikon HB-35 Lens Hood.

Am I using the wrong lens cap? or using the wrong flash?

Or, is there any way to take photos with the flash & not resulting with any shadow?

Taken with no lens hood.
