I think I see the point you are trying to make, but I ask you to reconsider this conclusion. Should we have asked H.C.B. to abandon his Leica because if he really intended to ​make​ photos he ​​should ​have used a 6x7 or 4x5 negative? I think not.

In recent decades, DSLR manufacturers have gradually left many users behind (leaving money on the table, imho) regarding body and lens size. Compare an F2 and a few nice 52mm filter sized lenses to an F4 or D4 sized behemoth with canon like lenses to match.

A DSLR does not ​need​ to be a large and heavy beast. I admire Leica for going the extra mile (if one has the extra bucks) to keep very good image quality in a small, albeit not light weight, package
